Definition

The signum function, denoted sgn, is defined as follows:

sgn(x):={1,x>01,x<00,x=0

Note: In the definition given here, we define the value sgn(0) to be zero. In some alternative definitions, sgn(0) is considered to be undefined, i.e., the domain of sgn is taken to be the nonzero reals.
